Title: Treading Water (Part III - The Arena)
Chapter Title: Slaves to the Beat
Rating: PG-13
Word count: 5,270
Betas:
mrsdrjackson and
pinkfinity (all mistakes and missteps are my own), and a special thanks to
azelmaroark for her help with all the swimming stuff.
Focus: Annie Cresta/Finnick Odair
Characters: Finnick Odair, Katniss Everdeen, Annie Cresta, Haymitch Abernathy, Peeta Mellark
Summary: Just like that, Finnick is in the arena, surrounded by blue-green water and brilliant pink sky...
Author's note: Just FYI - I played around with distances in the arena a little, just because Katniss' estimation of things seems a little small. Also, I'm not even going to try to keep this to a once-a-week posting schedule, because that was just plain EXHAUSTING, so it'll probably be closer to a new chapter every two weeks. Thirty-three total chapters is what I have blocked out, so that should be good unless I get blindsided again, like I did with chapter 14 (it took me two chapters to recover from that one, which is why I still have a question mark after the chapter count). Eventually, I'll get a soundtrack up for The Arena, too, but know that the chapter title comes from "Fire Escape" by Civil Twilight.
The platform rises and the relative darkness of the Launch Room gives way to light so intense it’s a physical pressure on his skin.
